Game #899, Round 5, 25/4/2005
Centrals 6.8(44) def. by Eagles 16.22(118)
This was the game most of us expected to lose - The Dogs
being seriously undermanned at the moment and the Eagles at
full strength. But 74 points is our biggest loss since Port
beat us by 78 points in 2000. But hey, we won a Premiership
in 2000. The Eagles look to have about the same skill level
as they did last year - so nothing to worry about as long
as we can get our shit together for the finals.
The Dogs got plenty of the ball, but we just lacked a few
too many key players. We're still missing about 6 stars and
you could probably include the likes of Surjan and S.Cochrane
who are likely to return from the Power. In fact, I blame
the Power: How dare they have chronic injury problems at the
same time as us.
The Eagles cheersquad managed to get another day pass from
Glenside to attend the match. It's good that this band of
unstable misfits get out of the padded cells for some fresh
air once in a while. We love those guys.
And it was good to see the other few Eagles supporters supporting
their team today. When it was clear the Eagles were going
to win the game, we saw at least 100 scarves get removed from
bags and placed around necks. Who would have thought the Eagles
had so many supporters? Well done guys, that's the spirit!
A funny thing happens when Centrals gets a belting on the
field. The Centrals faithful sing that little bit louder and
that little bit longer. Our unofficial rabble behind the goals
made no exception today. You'd have thought we were 125 points
up in a Grand Final the way the chanting was going. Well done
lads - your humour and passion is why we are unique in the
league.
Now why did Security guards attempt to stop the Centrals
"end-to-enders" from migrating to the southern end?
Eventually common sense prevailed and they gave up trying.
But seriously, what were they thinking? Where do these clowns
in yellow polo shirts come from? The Royal Show?
Oh, and I believe the Grand Final score remains at:
Centrals 3 - 0 Eagles.
See you on Grand Final day. :)
