Game #900, Round 6, 30/4/2005
Centrals 10.14(74) def. by North 14.8(92)
Those annoying upstarts 30 km's south of the Northern Heartland
have managed their first win over Centrals in 8 years, and
their first win at NAP in 13 years. The team we've loved to
ridicule for over a decade has finally wiped the smiles off
our faces. A black day in CDFC history.
The Cocks enjoyed an early 3 goal lead but the Dogs soon
took control and dominated play, finally hitting the front
by 3-quarter time. But attrocious kicking for goal, numerous
other wasted opportunities and some ridiculous errors let
the Roosters take the points. A very disappointing result
which can't be blamed solely on the 4 day break (from Monday's
ANZAC Day slaughter) and our injury list. I think the lads
are actually lacking some form!
The Roosters' middle-aged, drunken cheer mob hid themselves
out on the eastern wing so as not to offend their more civilised
hosts. Very thoughtful. But their alleged reputation for chanting
remained just that. The first time I heard them was at the
27 minute mark of the last quarter. But I did hear them sing
briefly - after the final siren.
So what can Roosters fans take from this historic victory
over their superior neighbours? Absolutely nothing. Their
team is "middle-of-the-road" and they'll be lucky
to make the finals.
A little rumour on Chris Gowans - he could have played today
but was rested.
No photos this week - the game was not worthy. |
