Centrals are 2005 Premiers!

Game #917, Grand Final, 2/10/2005
Bulldogs 15.14(104) def. Eagles 11.10(76)

The Dynasty continues - 5 Premierships from 6 consecutive Grand Finals. The Dogs have now appeared in 8 of the last 11 Grand Finals! Needless to say, we're all over the moon. Only Port and Sturt supporters back in the 1950's and 60's have experienced what us Centrals supporters are experiencing right now - a true dynasty!

This time, the Eagles actually turned up to play and at one stage in the 2nd quarter held a 17 point lead. And with the umpires absolutely screwing us on everything, the game looked to be at risk. But the Dogs kept fighting to lead by 3 points at half time. At that point, many of use felt confident of victory - the Eagles had dominated much of the 2nd quarter and had battled hard, only to find themselves still behind.

Central District's class shone through in the third term and a 2 goal lead was established by 3-quarter time. The last quarter saw the Dogs maintain the pressure to finally break the Eagles down.

I would like to congratulate the Eagles on putting up a decent performance. At one stage in the 2nd quarter when the Eagles were 3 goals up, I thought we were in trouble. The Eagles are the only side that has consistently put up a fight to Centrals in the last 6 seasons. They should be congratulated, rather than ridiculed. The Eagles must be hurting after appearing in 6 Grand Finals in 13 years and only having 1 Premiership to show for their efforts.

It's nice to win a close Grand Final. And congratulations to Luke McCabe on winning the Jack Oatey medal!

The atmosphere was brilliant. My favourite moment was in the 2nd quarter when the Dogs were trailing by 3 goals. At this point the famous Centrals chant began again. In the same situation, other supporter groups just go quiet, but the Centrals faithful chanted their team to recovery. It was magical!

An absolute HEAP of fantastic pictures were taken throughout the day. Please be patient as we sort through them and choose which ones to put on the site. More pictures will appear on the official site shortly as well!
