Game #935, Round 21 26/8/2006 @ Hamra Homes
Oval
Centrals 18.12(120) def. Glenelg 11.4(70)

In a convincing display, Centrals put down the Tigers to the tune of 50 points.
It looked like another umpiring fiasco would strike again as Glenelg was awarded
2 frees in front of goal to put them 12 points up after the first 5 minutes. The
soft umpiring continued to the point where Glenelg had kicked 4 of its first 7 goals
from free kicks. But you can't win a game on free kicks alone and the Dogs were far
too good for the early umpiring "problems" to affect the result. O'Sullivan
was probably best on ground, with Thomas, Gowans x 2, L.Westoff and MacKenzie all
getting a piece of the action. Good to see Quinno back too!
It looked like a decent attendance as well for this night game. Obviously it's
hard to attract a big crowd when playing Glenelg, but we definitely got 2 to 3 times
the crowd that a day game would have attracted. A great result! Official attendance:
4,666.
Some stats: Centrals is on a 13-game winning streak at Elizabeth against Glenelg.
Glenelg hasn't won at Elizabeth since 1992. Since 2000, Centrals has won 16 of its
last 18 matches against Glenelg. Going back further, Centrals has won 30 from the
last 34 matches against Glenelg dating back to 1993. Glenelg's record against Centrals
(over the last decade and a bit) is the worst in the league, narrowly beating North
Adelaide for that honour: North's has managed 5 wins over Centrals from 35 matches
since 1993. |
