Game #945, 11/5/2007 Round 6 @ Norwood Oval
Centrals 23.11(149) def. Norwood 13.9(87)

Here's a few notes I jotted down after the game (at Fin MacCool's):
In the first quarter, the umpires took the lead and the Dogs were on the back foot. The second quarter saw the umpires step it up with one of the most devastating displays of umpiring ever seen. The third quarter saw Williams and his fellow umpires tiring, bringing the Dogs back into the game. In the fourth quarter, the Dogs worked out that the only way to beat the umpiring was to keep the ball away from the opposition altogether. The only frees the umpires were able to pay against the Dogs were for TRAVELLING. Classic! Williams was exhausted and the Dogs kicked away with an incredible 11 goals to 1.

Backlines were rock solid. Schell, Wilson, Grima, Thommo were unbelievable. Schell has found his true position in the side. Absolutely brilliant. When the ball went into our backlines – PUNCH – the ball goes out of bounds around the wing somewhere! Schell! O’Sullivan slotted back into the side where he left off. O’Sullivan, Callinan, Slade and Slattery were unstoppable. Chris and James Gowans were everywhere, keeping Williams the wanker busy all night. Switala was so good it was ridiculous – always finding space to run on the wing. And MacKenzie held it all together with his tireless anchorman role in ruck. Currie backed up well, kicking the ball forward at every opportunity. Goodrem continued to impress being a real livewire around the forward lines. A champ in the making. “Heater” Lawry was at his bustling best. The umpires simply didn’t know how best to ping him. His work around half-forward was extreme. Symes and Ware were everywhere. Pure class. Giles caused all sorts of problems for the opposition up forward and is a great asset. And with Westhoff up front, the opposition were always going to struggle.
STATS:
This win was Central's 50th win over Norwood.
62 points is Central's 2nd highest ever winning margin at Norwood Oval.
