With the Dogs kicking 6 goals to zip in the first 12 minutes, a record-breaking performance was on the cards. But it was not to be as the 2nd and 3rd quarters fizzled into a low-scoring battle between the centre-half lines. The Dogs got back on track in the last quarter to extend the final margin out to an almost-respectable 55-point win.

Highlight of the night was the blimp circling the oval overhead with messages streaming across the big screen:

"GOWANS BOYS WE WANT YOU TO STAY"
"GO YOU DOGS"
"KRIS GRANT IS A LEGEND"

Wouldn't be surprised if Kris Grant was piloting the blimp last night. Poor old South, they even had the blimp against them.
